Construction has begun on British Columbia’s North Coast Transmission Line, a multi-phase project intended to expand electrical capacity for communities and industrial development. The province says the project will more than double transmission capacity in the region and support mining, energy and other major projects. Phase 1 is expected to be completed around 2030, while construction of Phase 2 is anticipated to begin in 2027. The project is expected to employ as many as 1,400 workers at peak construction. The line will strengthen the high-voltage backbone serving northern British Columbia and support additional investment that depends on access to reliable electricity.
