E-J Electric Cuts Hyperscale Data Center Modeling Time by 8.5 Times

E-J Electric completed initial electrical model population for a 1M+ sq. ft. hyperscale data center 8.5 times faster using Augmenta.

E-J Electric Installation Co. says it completed the initial model population for a hyperscale data center more than eight times faster by using Augmenta’s AI-powered virtual design automation platform.

The project covers more than one million square feet. According to the September 3 announcement, initial model population that was estimated to require about 693 hours was completed in 82 hours. That represents an 8.5-times reduction in modeling time.

E-J Executive Vice President Tom Kregel said automating time-intensive modeling lets project teams concentrate on coordination, shop drawings and prefabrication while allowing more field craft workers to be deployed earlier.

Augmenta’s system analyzes available space and obstructions while considering factors such as labor and material cost. Engineering inputs are then used to generate three-dimensional system models that support procurement, logistics, fabrication and installation.

The process is being applied to electrical systems on a large mission-critical project. Data centers require extensive power distribution, and construction schedules depend on close coordination among electrical equipment, pathways, prefabricated assemblies and other building systems.

E-J is an ENR Top 50 electrical contractor with more than 4,600 employees across 33 offices. Its markets include data centers, substations, transmission and distribution, power generation, renewables, industrial facilities, chip plants, airports, hospitals and transit systems.

Augmenta announced the project results September 3. The release identifies the project as a hyperscale data center but does not disclose the owner or project location.
