Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has developed a standardized, digitally optimized design for 132 kV substations that is reducing project time, cost and equipment requirements across its transmission network.
DEWA says the design has supported construction of 90 132 kV substations. Twenty-three of those substations were commissioned during the first half of 2026.
The utility reports that the standardized approach reduces total design and implementation time by more than two months and lowers execution cost by about AED 5 million per substation.
The design also reduces physical equipment. DEWA says approximately 8,000 electronic parts and 140 kilometers of copper wiring have been eliminated. The optimized layout reduces construction area by about 220 square meters.
Digital control and monitoring are integrated into the 132/11 kV approach. Reusing approved engineering models allows design teams to reduce variations between projects and move more quickly from planning into construction readiness.
DEWA operates transmission infrastructure at 400 kV and 132 kV and continues building substations and cable projects as Dubai's electricity demand grows. The figures were confirmed by DEWA and independent September 2 reporting.
