Ceigall India Wins Major Transmission Project to Move 14 GW of Gujarat Power

Ceigall India received an LoI for a major Gujarat transmission project including a 765/400-kV substation and roughly 300 km of lines.

Ceigall India has received a letter of intent for a major interstate transmission project designed to move up to 14 GW of power from renewable-energy zones in Gujarat.

SolarQuarter reports the project value at approximately INR 5,300 crore. The planned system includes a new 765/400 kV air-insulated substation and approximately 300 kilometers of transmission infrastructure.

The project is intended to create a common transmission system for renewable generation in Gujarat. Large solar and wind developments require high-voltage networks capable of collecting power and moving it toward major load centers.

A 765/400 kV substation is among the highest-voltage classes used in large transmission networks. Construction can involve power transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, bus systems, protection, controls, communications and extensive grounding.

The letter of intent represents an award milestone. The project must still proceed through detailed engineering, procurement and field construction, with long-lead equipment and right-of-way work important schedule factors.

The award adds another large transmission project to India's grid-expansion program. India's rapid addition of renewable generation is driving simultaneous investment in high-voltage substations and long-distance transmission lines.
