Chief Electrical Estimator
A Chief Electrical Estimator leads the estimating function for an electrical contractor and is responsible for the quality, accuracy and strategy behind major project pursuits. This senior leadership position typically oversees estimating personnel, bid assignments, estimate reviews, labor and material assumptions, vendor and subcontractor coverage, risk analysis and final bid preparation. Chief Electrical Estimators combine extensive electrical construction knowledge with leadership, business judgment and a strong understanding of the company's capabilities, costs and competitive position. Depending on the size of the contractor, the Chief Estimator may personally lead major estimates while managing a team of Junior Estimators, Estimators and Senior Estimators. - Lead and manage the electrical estimating department.
- Assign projects and estimating responsibilities based on workload, experience and project complexity.
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, addenda and contract requirements.
- Oversee complete electrical estimates from initial pursuit through final bid submission.
- Review quantity takeoffs, labor hours, material pricing and subcontractor quotations.
- Establish labor productivity assumptions based on project conditions, schedule and installation requirements.
- Review major equipment and material pricing for accuracy and market conditions.

- Lead conceptual, budget, design-build and design-assist estimating efforts.
- Develop estimating standards, procedures and best practices.
- Maintain historical cost information and estimating databases.
- Review completed-project costs and incorporate lessons learned into future estimates.
- Coordinate closely with Project Management and Operations during project turnover.
- Participate in client meetings, scope reviews and proposal presentations.
- Develop value-engineering alternatives and cost-saving recommendations.
- Evaluate project schedules, logistics, phasing and manpower requirements.
- Review escalation risks and long-lead equipment considerations.
- Mentor and develop estimators throughout the department.
- Recruit and assist with hiring estimating personnel when required.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers and subcontractors.
- Support business development and preconstruction activities.
